Re: At a loss
Dr. Donald Yates, principal investigator, says that Givens was a colonial Virginia and early Tennessee surname I have referred to in several of my genealogy books. Some of them were known to have taken Cherokee brides in the Longhunter period (before 1790).
Hope this helps.

Re: Raw Data
Raven,
No. There is no way to do this as you are trying to compare our data with others. Our DNA testing is based on a different scientific analysis: different companies; different methods.

Re: Surname
I checked with Dr. Yates, and he sent this for you: Askew can be traced to a Norman William de Ascough, named after Aiscough, an Old Norse place-name. His family could have been Jewish or crypto-Jewish, particularly since he was “father of the English navy.” Other admirals and naval administrators w...

Re: Michigan Native American
Welcome to the communities board. We have so much to explore in our DNA, and the reports can be helpful. My Cherokee admixture shows up at No. 39 in the DNA Fingerprint Plus test. I didn't know I had any. I also took the Rare Genes from History test and received a First Peoples marker, which is foun...

Re: Native American map & marker
I checked with the investigators who said we do not do percentages as it is not very scientific as no population is pure because of admixture. They will be happy to go over your report if you calls them M-F 10-6 MT at 888-806-2588.
Hope this helps,

Re: Confused and disappointed!
The investigators would like you to call them at 888-806-2588 M- F 10-6 MT as they would need to look at your individual report and go over it. They pointed out that oral history can sometimes be wrong because it is quite possible to have someone in your ancestry from another tribe be adopted by ano...

Re: Melungeon test
The investigator said we added the Melungeon data back in 2011, so there is no need for an update unless you are looking for Melungeon beyond your top 50 matches. ( We search in 450 populations with the update so, you can find out where it is and how strong your match is by ordering the Melungeon up...
