Myths and Truths

Postby Shari » Mon Jul 20, 2015 5:52 pm

This is a sampling of numerous websites that can inform us about the Romanies and their lives, past and present. Although to this day, many still try to stay “invisible” in order to live peaceful lives, other Romani are publicly advocating for equality. Dr. Ian Hancock is one and there are others as shown below.

Hi Shari,

Thank you so much for all these links! I received Romani/ Gypsy as one of my top megapopulations. I am especially interested in the one concerning the expulsion of the Romanis from France as I have French. I also have Melungeon ( #10) , so Romani/Gypsy could have come from those ancestral lines. I have a story that some of my ancestors " arrived on a rich man's farm in TN to train his horses." Eventually, they bought the farm! I wonder if this family is where my Romani/Gypsy line comes from. Hi Theresa,
You have major clues to work with - Romany/Gypsy as one of your top megapopulations as well as Melungeon and your family history. What an advantage we genealogy searchers possess being able to find key evidence in our DNA results to confirm our family stories! -- Shari
