Does anyone know what a Melungeon skunk stripe/ strip is?

I was looking for information on the Tihanama when I came across a blog post which included information on Melmuth Lakey, a Melungeon? Which stated he had a Melungeon skunk strip.

This is rather curious for me as one of my aunts, dads sister’s, was born with a full head of jet black hair with a solid white stripe all the way down the center. After her third year her hair turned to a complete blondish white.

I do have Melungeon as my number 1 match.

Actually, I have a sort of skunk strip, and my great uncle Melmut Lackey really had a noticeable one. I usually dye mine well. I'm sorry to say I don't know how to post photos here.

Dr. Yates,
Thank you for replying. I did not realize Melmut Lackey was your uncle. Very cool!

There was an old time Mexican singer/actor Miguel Aceves Mejía who had the stripe. I read Mejía might indicate Jewish ancestry.

Marcia,

That's interesting. Especially the possible Jewish Mejia connection. Sephardic I would presume. Would tie in with Melungeon Crypto Jews as well I assume.

In a side note. I apologize for not emailing you over the weekend. The flu is running through or home right now and I did get side tracked between taking care of everyone and myself and tracing census schedules. I will email soon though.

And I forgot to mention. That when I contacted the Pulaski Co, KY Historical Society they stated that their has never been proof of Native Americans residing in KY. Hmmm.... Wonder why they would say that.
