Appalache and the French

The Appalache Indians were located around Tallahassee, Fl among the Spanish. After a war they fled to the French Fort de la Mobile. They were Catholic and several of them were baptized and show in the earliest church records. There are a number if Choctaw in the records as well.

Mobile began as the capital of French Louisiana in 1702
A hurricane in 1711 sent the French upMobile River to 27 mile Bluff
The French later moved to Biloxi 1720 then to New Orleans. This Area was part of Lousiana, Spanish West Florida, British Colony 1763
Back to Spanish in 1780
Spanish did not leave willingly after Alabama became a territory in 1819 split from The MS territory created in 1814
Andrew Jackson, Choctaw Indians ran Spanish out and disposed of many records.
The majority of the original records of Mobile's colonial history, spanning the years 1702 through 1813, are housed in Paris, London, Seville, and Madrid.[88]
Research in this area is challenging but not impossible once you understand the timeline. The French and Spanish were Catholic began record keeping by 1703 and included Indians in there records, researching the Church of Immaculate Conception index includes Indians under Blacks
